Dan's face
DAN LEE: THE LOWDOWN

I'm an artist, writer, illustrator, and designer, with a specialty in hand lettering. Always chasing better ways to tell stories. Creative professional with an engineering education. Recovering usefulness addict. Big on mystery and wonder, Mountain Dew Rise, and organizing. Not so big on raisins.

I'm a Pennsylvania kid at heart, born in Pittsburgh but raised in Philly (go Birds etc etc). I got a dual Bachelors & Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University, something I achieved a bit by accident, a bit through sheer determination, and a bit with a little help from my friends.

I drew and designed things in whatever free time I could wrangle through that experience, and pivoted instantly thereafter into the graphic design world, during which time I learned that lettering was a particular passion and skill.

After cutting my teeth with the world's best Creative Services team at the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia two blocks from City Hall, I moved to Sheridan, Wyoming to work at Only Co. and fulfill my dreams of being a Design Cowboy — which I'm currently seeing through sartorially, between my Joe Pickett-approved Stetson Open Road and Ariat Rawly boots.

I regularly post my art on Instagram, lettering (@dandrawnwords) and otherwise (@danly.art). Offline, I can be found hiking in the Bighorn Mountains, enjoying solo restaurant meals in cool cities, and attempting to read too many books at once.

Additional details can be elicited through the grabbing of a coffee or a beer in your area.

MISSION STATEMENT

My core mission is to "be wonderful to people," a statement that integrates the Christian call to love my neighbor with the practical exercise of creating, inspiring, and sharing various forms of goodness and delight. It's most rewarding for me to make things that are encouraging and engaging, that inspire people to slow down and embrace the beauty that exists all around and within them.

CURRENT ROLES

Currently a freelance designer at Destiny Kid Labs, a developing brand that's focused on design and lettering art for storytelling industries — merch, titling, logomarks, and more — because great storytelling takes great design. More to come!

I'm also the lead artist for Go Fast Don't Die, an open-road, moto-inspired lifestyle & apparel brand that's all about community and contribution. (Formerly Chief Creative Officer at sister brand Only Co., a Sheridan-based business building company for industrial businesses and skilled trades.)

I'm currently on the following local non-profit Boards of Directors, supporting art and creative transformation in my community and globally:

MISCELLANEOUS PROFICIENCES

Because problem solving takes many shapes. Just for fun, tap any of the below to learn more about these assets in my Experiential Toolbox™:

Web Designer + Developer
Self-taught HTML and CSS expert, with enough Google-fu to manage PHP and JS where needed. I've customized templates in Shopify's Liquid, built full sites in Wordpress from PHP templates to WYSIWYG plugins, and developed this site fully in Webflow. Also a master debugger when it comes to issues in almost any web language.
Strategic Facilitator
Planned and executed company-wide workshops to instill refreshed brand values across four weeks for 80+ client staff members. I also developed the repeatable positioning and messaging process (the Only Exercise) that I facilitate with client stakeholders.
IMAG Operator
Familiar with running various real-time presentation software for events. In addition to visual screen management, I learned to operate a lighting board to set up and execute lighting cues for diverse productions, including plays, conferences, and musical events.
Wedding DJ (retired)
Purveyor of playlists and manipulator of masses at 10+ matrimonial events. I know how to get crowds of all ages moving, where to place Cascada's "Everytime We Touch" for max effect, the best combos to transition you from EDM to country swing, and the best time to slow things down for your grandparents-in-law to get their slow dance in.
Video Creator
I've found myself in front of and behind cameras for projects that span sketch comedy to fundraising ads. From brainstorming, scriptwriting, and storyboarding to editing, graphic support, video typography, and stop motion animation, I know my way around Premiere Pro and can definitely hang in After Effects.
Muralist
Whether wielding paint markers, pastels, or straight up sidewalk chalk, I've personally decked many walls in shops and homes with original art that conveys crucial (and/or quirky) content with gusto.
